Environmental Modeling Software Library

Welcome to the Columbia University Department of Earth & Environmental Engineering online modeling resource. Below you will find descriptive links for all of the programs maintained in our Environmental Modeling Software Library, and also examples of curricular applications using these models. The modeling library itself is located in our Computer Laboratory in room 827 Mudd, which houses 14 networked PCs with site licenses for each model. The library serves as a resources for students and faculty in the Deapartment of Earth and Environmental Engineering, and can be made available upon request to other members of the Columbia community.

The "Model Description" links offer brief descriptions of each model adapted from users manuals and other documentation provided by the models' developers. These descriptions exist to help users determine the applicability of each model to their needs, and to get started in using the model. While these overviews may describe what is required to run the model and what types of outputs to expect, they are not intended to be comprehensive how-to tutorials. Links to each model’s web site are also provided, to access more detailed information, and also downloads for freeware programs.

The "Curricular Applications" links each describe an exercise from a course that makes use of one of the models, and how different concepts are illustrated in the exercises. They serve as examples of how these modeling tools are incorporated into our undergraduate environmental engineering curriculum.

This Environmental Modeling Software Library has been developed with support from the National Science Foundation.
